Thematic catalogs organize a composer's works into a detailed index that is usually organized by genre or chronology.
You will find thematic catalogs at ML134 in the Reference section of the Music Library.
Thematic catalog entries include the following information:
- Catalog number for the work (opus numbers or composer specific catalog numbers, such as K. numbers for Mozart's works)
- Dates of composition and performance premieres
- Incipits (short musical excerpts, usually from the start of a work)
- Manuscript locations (archives, libraries, private collections, etc.)
- Published editions (including collected edition information)
- Bibliography of literature about the musical work
