Bring Your Content into Pressbooks

There are three ways that you can bring or add content into Pressbooks.

Write Directly in Pressbooks

Writing your book directly in Pressbooks is one of the easiest ways to assure your book is well-formatted. Plus, it gives you the added benefit of using the platform itself as a tool to organize your book.

Note: If you go this route, please be sure to save your progress often to avoid losing any of your work.

Copy & Paste from Another Source

Copying and pasting content from another application is a reliable but sometimes labor-intensive way to bring content into Pressbooks. A benefit is that you can write your content in the word processor that you are most comfortable with, such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs.

If you use the copy & paste method, we recommend working with small portions of your text at a time. It is also essential to review the pasted text to ensure your desired formatting. Please refer to the Pressbooks User Guide for instructions.

Import from Microsoft Word

If you are using Microsoft Word to create your content, you can import your Word file directly into Pressbooks. If you choose to do this, there are several steps you should take to prepare your document. You will also need to reformat your content after importing into Pressbooks. Please refer to the Pressbooks User Guide for instructions on using this method, and refer to the video below.
