Embedding Media

Pressbooks has a lot of functionalities that you can explore, such as embedding images and videos throughout the text. You can also use textboxes to call out information, and you can even embed other media like playlists, slideshows, and 3D illustrations if you wish.

The Media menu allows you to add new media in bulk, edit your media, and add important information like titles, captions, and alt text. Click Add New to open the media editor menu and add a new media item (see screenshot below).

The media editor menu allows you to upload new media and add important information like titles, captions, alt text, and source information for your media. The screenshot below displays the media editor menu.

Alt Text

Alt text is essential for maximizing the accessibility, or the usability of the resource, for people using screen readers. Alt text is required for all images you upload into Pressbooks, unless they are solely decorative. Provide a description in the Alt Text field that describes the image briefly so that someone who cannot see the image can understand the value it adds to your chapter. Citing and Attributing Media

If you are using media that you did not create yourself, there are also fields available to include attribution for the media, including a source URL, author details, and licensing information.
