This guide is to help faculty and students get started with Tableau.

Tableau Public vs. Tableau Desktop

Tableau Public--Free program

Data limits

      – 10,000,000 rows of data

      – Excel, Access, text files

Publishing limits

     – Can only save work to the web

     – 10GB storage space per account

     – Can now disable data download

Tableau Desktop--Not free, but faculty and students can get it for instruction or learning

      – Allows you to save files privately

      – Additional data connection options (databases, etc.)

      – No data size limits

Full-time students can get free one-year license for Tableau desktop for free. Faculty can get free short-term licenses for faculty and students using Tableau in a course.
