APA Citation Style was created by the American Psychological Association and is most commonly used by researchers in the social sciences. In APA Citation Style you must cite your sources in the body of the paper you are writing using parenthetical citations and at the end of your paper in a Reference List.

APA Publication Manual

The Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association is the definitive source for details on citing references in APA Citation Style. There are several copies available through the UH Libraries and one is always available at the M.D. Anderson Library Service Desk.

Additional APA Style Resources

If you don't have a copy of the APA Publication Manual and can't get to the UH Libraries to borrow a copy, there are lots of online resources available to help you put together in-text citations and a reference list in APA Citation Style.

What is a DOI?

APA Citation Style includes the DOI of journal articles in its Reference List citations. DOI stands for "Digital Object Identifier."  It is a unique alphanumeric string that is assigned to an article that is available online such as: https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.1015962107. You'll often find it at the end of an article citation or in the information about the article in your search results.
