Writing a Journal Article
- Writing Your Journal Article (WYJA) FormsWendy Laura Belcher's writing workbook Writing Your Journal Article in Twelve Weeks: A Guide to Academic Publishing Success (2019) requires you to write information and answers in various boxes and forms in the book. If you want to preserve your book without marks, however, you can use the pdf forms on this page (currently, only full-page forms are posted below; none of the partial-page boxes are posted although they are listed). They are listed according to chapter.

- Journal Finder or MatcherThe tools on this page could help you to identify journals that might be interested in publishing your article. You will need to enter a title and a description (abstract) of your paper in order to receive a list of suggestions.
- Advice from Publishers & PractitionersThese web-based tutorials contain extensive advice from some major scholarly publishing companies. In these tutorials, you will learn the steps on how to get your research published, from selecting an appropriate journal, preparing a manuscript, to what the editors look for, and how to communicate with them.
- Publishing with Open Access JournalsIn recent years, reputable open access (OA) journals have established themselves among the top ranked journals in most disciplines. The process for vetting and selecting an OA journal to submit your work to is largely the same as the process detailed in the "Publishing Journal Articles" portion of the Scholarly Publishing guide, though it is also key to pay attention to any Article Processing Charges levied by an OA journal and ensure you are not submitting to a so-called "predatory" journal.

For more information about open access at UH, see the Libraries' Open Access webpage. - Sharing on Preprint ServersMost disciplines have built online repositories where scholars can share their preprints—working papers or early versions of scholarly or scientific papers that precede formal peer review. These preprint servers differ from institutional repositories like University of Houston's Institutional Repository in that they accept deposits from scholars at any institution.
