Artists in all genres have issues in wellness that are unique to their profession. A solid understanding of safe and healthy practices in their field will ensure that they are able to create within their art form for many, many years. In 2009, University of Houston President Renu Khator launched the UH Arts initiative, which supports music, visual arts, literary arts, dance, theater, and design through programs offered at the University. In 2015, the University Libraries hosted the first Artists’ Health and Wellness Colloquium and Resource Fair as an extension of the UH Arts initiative and to bring together students, community artists, health professionals and arts organizations in a unique learning experience.
This guide was created to provide information on health and wellness in the Arts. Local resources are chosen with an emphasis on services available in the Houston area.
