Citations for This Course

For citations in this course, you will be using the Chicago citation style. This style is most commonly used by researchers in literature, history, and the arts. Chicago style has two documentation formats:

  • Notes-Bibliography, which uses footnotes within the paper and a bibliography at the end.
  • Author-Date, which uses parenthetical in-text citations and a reference list.

For this course, you will be using the Notes-Bibliography format. If you use a citation management tool, you may need to change the settings to ensure that any citations are generated in the Notes-Bibliography formatting of Chicago style.

Chicago Manual of Style

The Chicago Manual of Style is available online to UH students, faculty, and staff. It is the definitive source for details on citing references in Chicago Citation Style. If you'd prefer to use a paper copy, there is one available at the M.D. Anderson Library's Service Desk.
